‘Basic formgiving skills’ is an exploration of the language of form: how fundamental shapes integrate into products and influence emotion, character, and perception. This was done through several exercises, first by observation, then by integration: (1) replicating an existing product, a power socket; (2) investigating distinct materials and their characteristics; (3) combining two contrasting geometries, circular and rectangular; and finally (4) redesigning the socket into a cohesive form family.

Through these steps, the study revealed how the essence of a product can be shaped through subtle nuances in proportion, connection and detail.
