'Basic formgiving skills'

Exploration

‘Basic formgiving skills’ is an exploration into the language of form—how fundamental shapes integrate into products, influencing emotion, character, and perception. This was done through several exercises, first by observation, then by integration: (1) replicating an existing product, a power socket; (2) investigating distinct materials and their characteristics; (3) combining two contrasting geometries, circular and rectangular; and finally, (4) redesigning the socket into a cohesive form family.

Through these steps, the study reveals how the essence of a product can be shaped through the subtle nuances of the proportion, connection and detail of form.
